Legacy sequels already start on their back foot. They have to justify their existence (or at least they should). There has to be a case made why we are checking back in with these characters after so many years. What else can be gained? What more do we need to know? Why can’t Hollywood do anything original anymore? What do you mean no one went to see Elio? Wasn’t it well-liked by both critics and my kids? Well, hopefully Disney and other studios don’t take those low box office numbers the wrong way, right? What do you mean, “they’re going to force Michael Douglas into Avengers Doomsday by gunpoint?” Let’s just get to Freddy Prinze Jr.

Prinze Jr has returned to the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise in a new film set to be released in a little over a week. This is not long after a television remake based on the same novel was just released in 2021. Now, as is tradition, the property has moved past a remake in favor of a legacy sequel, bringing together old and new characters. One such character is Ray Bronson, played by Freddy Prinze Jr, who enters the trailer for the new film in a way that almost feels like a parody.

Regardless, dude is hyped for the work he has done on the film. He recently explained to People that he was psyched to work with old friends, while taking a swipe at the third film in the franchise and claiming the new film has the best work he’s done with co-star Jenifer Love Hewitt. “Whatever a high school union feels like, that’s what it felt like,” Prinze explained. “You have no idea what’s changed, what’s the same. You’re excited to show what you think you’re better at, you know what I mean? You hope they notice it. It was all those things.”

The actor noted that there was a level of trust needed between him and Love Hewitt, given the tight shooting schedule, but that that wasn’t an issue. “I didn’t have any reason not to trust her,” said Prinze. “I know how much this character means to her. She puts everything into this girl and always has since the first movie.” He’d go on to praise his co-star and their work on the new movie. “I know when we got together, they’re the best scenes that we’ve put on camera together, of any of the three movies,” the wrestling enthusiast told People. “I know there was another one in there, but I never saw that one.” Oh, daaaamn.

“I’m really proud of the work that Love and I got to do on screen,” he continued. “I think it’s the best work we’ve done in all three of the movies that we did together. And I don’t think it’s close.” It’s fun to hear Prinze Jr gush about the new film, even if that is his job right now. He certainly wouldn’t badmouth it. That’s for if it releases and doesn’t do well. Then you do a nice, thorough hand-washing, saying no one knew what they were doing. Then, you take it all back when news of a new reboot hits. Tradition.
