I’ve been having a lot of “life is a simulation” moments lately, and this newest one isn’t helping. Last night, my son and I watched Dredd. Karl Urban’s fake Johnny Cage trailer popped the idea in my head for our summer movie nights. I thought the choice was random, but less than 24 hours later, Taika Waititi has announced that he’s cooking up a take on the character that will lean more into Judge Dredd’s indie comics roots than the schlocky Stallone film or Urban’s badass shoot-em-up. Jen K isn’t much of a rereader, but the current political moment has her reading Pierce Brown’s Red Rising Saga again. “One thing is I had forgotten how comparatively tight these books are (the first is slightly less than 400 pages, the last slightly more than 500) when considering the amount of plot happening in them. And flaws and all, I still love these books.” Are there books about uprisings against oppressive regimes that you recommend? (Cannonball Read 17)
From Tori: Y’all wanna a cartoon about a disease that turns people into cats, spread by contact because petting cats is irresistible? Dustin sure doesn’t, so let’s all watch Nyaight of the Living Cat on Crunchyroll and talk about it in the comments of every Dustin post just to let him know what his sad, cold heart is missing!
