Three Trailers: ‘Eden,’ ‘Tron: Ares,’ and ‘Butterfly’

Three Trailers: Ana de Armas Ruins the Galapagos, Jared Leto Ruins 'Tron', and Daniel Dae Kim Ruins Absolutely Nothing Ever

Two things about the trailer for Eden shocked me. One, this is a Ron Howard movie. It doesn’t feel like a Ron Howard movie at all. Two, this movie premiered at TIFF, and the trailer was first released three months ago, and no one has been talking about it. That probably doesn’t bode well for the film, but I’m willing to give it a shot. It’s based on a true story about a couple of expatriates who fled post-World War I Germany to establish a settlement on the Galapagos Islands. Murder and mystery ensued.

There’s also a 2013 documentary called The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden. Watching that trailer, I can see how this story captured Howard’s attention.

Howard’s brutal-looking Eden stars Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Brühl, and Sydney Sweeney. It will be released in theaters on August 22nd.

If it weren’t for Jared Leto, I’d probably be excited about Tron: Ares. The rest of the cast is fantastic, and the visuals are really cool. Almost as cool as the original, which blew people’s minds in 1982.

Besides Morbius, the cast includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges.

Tron: Ares opens in theaters on October 10th.

Prime Video’s upcoming series Butterfly looks a little like Citadel, includes elements of FUBAR, and promises the action of Reacher. But it stars Daniel Dae Kim, so it’s going to be better than at least two of those series.

Butterfly also stars Kim Ji-hoon, Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs), Charles Parnell (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning), Reina Hardesty (Brockmire), and Kim Tae-hee. The six-episode series begins streaming August 13th on Prime.

I am going to take this opportunity to make sure you all know the Tony Award-winning play, Yellow Face, that stars Daniel Dae Kim and Francis Jue is available to watch if you subscribe to PBS Passport, which we should all do right now because PBS is awesome and needs our help.

This week’s lagniappe comes courtesy of Tori. It’s a cartoon about a disease that turns people into cats, spread by contact because petting cats is irresistible. And it will be the cartoon that will make me subscribe to Crunchyroll. At least long enough to watch it.

Here I thought that the streamers were cutting back.
