Callahan on Jeff Simmons participation in team offseason program or lack thereof: “if there’s one player I don’t have to worry about being ready, it’s Jeff”

The Tennessee Titans opened organized team activities (OTAs) this week, and participation has been solid.
There are players who are in attendance but not practicing due to injury, and others who are being monitored as they go through reps. However, OTAs are voluntary, so there are players who may not be there.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Brian Callahan was asked about defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, specifically.
Even if Simmons isn’t at OTAs, again, they are voluntary. Many believe that players should show up for these practices, even though it’s not mandatory, but they’re voluntary for a reason. Remember, players have families and other obligations outside of football, much like everyday people do outside of their day jobs.
If a player feels his body needs rest, then he should rest. That said, every able-bodied player who is available should absolutely show up at OTAs.
Simmons was drafted by the Titans in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. They’ve managed to keep him and added T’Vondre Sweat by his side in 2024. Last year, he recorded 76 tackles (41 solo), 5.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, four passes defensed, and 17 stuffs.
Simmons is reliable, he’s consistent, and he gets the job done. As long as that continues, there should be no complaints about whether he is in the building when he doesn’t have to be.
