4th of July weekend is always a big time for the box office, and dinosaur movies are always a major money maker because we’re all not-so-secretly kids who love it when the big lizards go roar. Jurassic World Rebirth had no competition as it opened to 4,308 theatres, so of course it opened at number one with a total gross of over $147.3 million. It has grossed over $318 million against a reported $180 million budget. So, it’s already the 10th highest-grossing movie of 2025 so far. In less than one week. Dinosaurs, man.

F1: The Movie fell to number two, with its domestic total currently at $109.5 million. As always, f*ck Brad Pitt.

Dragons are dinosaur-adjacent, right? Well, they’re lizardy enough to keep audiences’ attention, as the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon proves. Four weeks into its release, it has an impressive $224 million in the bank in North America. That makes it currently the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year, but it’s well behind the other big live-action remake of the year, Disney’s Lilo and Stitch, which is at $972.7 million and counting. That means it jumped ahead of A Minecraft Movie, which looks like it won’t crack the $1 billion mark.

This is Spinal Tap turned 41 this year, and it’s getting both a Criterion release and a sequel, so an anniversary screening was in order for fans of Smell the Glove. Sadly, it debuted at number 10 and not 11, so it was all pointless. Well, except for earning $931,737. I suppose that was nice.

40 Acres, a postapocalyptic thriller about a Black family of Canadian farmers fighting back against cannibals starring Danielle Deadwyler, brought in $475,000 from 340 locations, landing it at number 12.

The Argentinian sports drama Kill the Jockey earned $4,600 from one theatre. That was it for limited releases. See, dinosaurs!

This coming week sees the release of the new Superman. Does this one feature dinosaurs?
