On Sunday night, after some prying from host and friend Andy Cohen, Sarah Jessica Parker revealed that she and Nic Cage once dated (presumably while they were shooting Hollywood in Vegas in the early ’90s). She offered no details about the relationship, but on Monday, Nic Cage confirmed the two dated —- “I cared about her,” he told E! News —- and explained why he thought the relationship fell apart.
“I didn’t pass the Mom test,” he said.
The two were doing well right up until Cage met Parker’s mom.
“I recall sitting down with her and her mother, [Barbara Parker], for dinner at the Russian Tea Room,” he explained. “I don’t know if it was my blue Vanson Leather motorcycle jacket (which I still have) or my sinusitis, but I didn’t hear from her again.”
Soon thereafter, Sarah Jessica Parker met Matthew Broderick —- and apparently, he passed the Mom test. As we know from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the guy knows how to sweet-talk a mom. The two have three kids and have been happily married for over 30 years.
Cage, in the meantime, has as many ex-wives as movies he makes in a year: Patricia Arquette, Lisa Marie Presley, Alice Kim, and Erika Koike. He’s currently married to future ex-wife Riko Shibata, whom he wed in 2021. She’s 30, and he’s 61 — so the Mom test probably meant meeting a woman his age.
