Peoria Notre Dame advances vs Providence

WASHINGTON — Make it a dozen for the Peoria Notre Dame girls soccer program.

The Irish (24-1-1) are headed to their 12th state finals after a 3-0 victory against New Lenox Providence in the Illinois High School Association Class 2A Washington Supersectional on Tuesday night.

PND senior Ava LaFollette scored three times to extend her ongoing school record to 57 goals in 27 games, pushing her into the top 20 all-time in the IHSA record book.

LaFollette gave PND a 1-0 lead with 23:25 left second half. It came from the left side, about 14 yards away and squeezed just inside left post. It came about five minutes after LaFollette was stopped on a penalty kick opportunity by Providence goalkeeper Claire Wajda.

She added her second goal with 5:03 left, walking it in from the right side uncontested. Her hat trick came with 2:38 remaining, when she pulled up against a defender in the box, shot around her and into the right side of the net.

PND advances to the state semifinals for a 2:30 p.m. semifinal against either Springfield High or Troy Triad.
