Suspect in San Francisco killing of man, dog charged in federal court

SAN FRANCISCO — Prosecutors here have charged a man with possessing the ammunition he allegedly had after killing a dog and the animal’s owner two days before Christmas last year.

Johnny Jameson has been charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition, and is next due in court in September, records show. He was supposed to have a status conference next week but it was postponed.

Prosecutors allege that on Dec. 23, 2024, Jameson “taunted” a man’s dogs during an argument and shot one of them, Cookie, in the head. He and the victim — a man who has not been identified — then struggled over the gun and Jameson shot the man several times, according to a prosecution detention memo.

The victim’s name has not been released by police.

After the shooting, Jameson drove off in a Honda, which broke down less than a mile away. A box of ammunition with his DNA on it was found in the car, prosecutors allege. Jameson was detained in connection with the homicide but later released, according to court records.

Jameson has eight prior felony convictions, including a 2020 gun conviction in federal court, that make it illegal for him to have ammunition, according to court records. A federal judge has ordered Jameson remanded to custody while this case is pending.
